Daniel Carlat is a psychiatrist, writer, and speaker who has spent his career promoting transparency, ethics, and critical thinking in the mental health field. He is the founder and publisher of The Carlat Report, a newsletter and website that provides unbiased, evidence-based reviews of psychiatric drugs, as well as commentary on issues in the field. He is also the author of the memoir Unhinged: The Trouble with Psychiatry—A Doctor’s Revelations about a Profession in Crisis, which has been widely praised for its candid account of the challenges and controversies of practicing psychiatry. Carlat has been a prominent voice in the movement to reduce the influence of pharmaceutical companies on the practice of psychiatry and to improve the quality of mental health care through increased transparency and accountability. He is currently a professor at Tufts University School of Medicine and a practicing psychiatrist in Massachusetts.
